Earlier this year, Maidstone Borough Council relaunched its separate food waste collection system by focusing on the role of individual houses and promoting a new food caddy package.
Since March 2025, Maidstone’s food waste tonnage has risen by over 50% as thousands of residents are now taking part ensuring their food waste is removed every week with an environmental benefit. Thank you to everyone who is recycling their food waste. Once collected, the material is treated at an AD (Anaerobic Digestion) plant. This process generates power for the national grid and produces a liquid fertiliser that is used on local farming land.
In order to further refine the food collection system, we are re-opening a consultation to find out how residents feel about the food waste collection system. We will be using this information to compare to our first round of this survey.
