MBC supports free course to help entrepreneurs start a business

Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) is supporting a free pilot training course for budding entrepreneurs to learn how to start a business in just ten days – with no budget or business plan necessary.

The virtual ‘Rebel Business School’ course, also sponsored by Kent County Council, runs from 19 -30 July and is open to any local person with a business idea. Participants will learn practical ways to get a business off the ground, as well as gain advice on how to sustain and thrive.

The course is just one of the ways MBC is helping to drive employment and business growth and people of all ages, whether currently working or unemployed, are invited to attend.

Cllr Martin Round, Chair of Maidstone Borough Council Economic, Regeneration and Leisure Committee said: “We know that many local people’s employment situations have changed dramatically. Whether they’ve been unfortunate enough to be furloughed, lost their jobs or are just completely rethinking about their lives and the way they want to work, we want to support them to succeed.

“This free course is a brilliant opportunity to turn a difficult situation into something positive or to just try something new. I’d urge anyone with a seed of an idea to give it a go and look forward to watching the start of some fantastic new businesses, that we hopefully can further advise and watch prosper.”

The Rebel Business School runs courses around the country, which are free to access thanks to the help of local sponsors. No experience is necessary and the course is suitable for anyone, whether at the beginning of their start-up journey or an already established business.

Kent-based, Joanna Van Blommestein took part in a Rebel Business School course and now runs the hugely successful Bra Boss of Kent. She adds: “I can honestly say it’s changed my life!

“I feel so proud that I’ve made the leap into setting up my own business and I know I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t attend.”
