Planning Applications
Hollingbourne Parish Council (HPC) is a statutory consultee on all planning applications and matters related to planning that are proposed within the parish. HPC reserves the right to comment on all potential applications and, if it so desires, require the application to be examined by the Planning Committee at Maidstone Borough Council (MBC).
Our Planning Committee basis all its comments on the relationship of the proposal to the local planning document and the recent guidance checklist, a copy of which can be viewed here
It is important that all applications have these two documents in mind during the process of preparation as failure to do so may cause the application to be declined.
The role of HPC Planning Committee is to review all planning applications submitted within our Parish, from small house extensions to large scale residential and commercial development, then provide an opinion to MBC, whom are not bound by our opinion but must consider it.
All planning applications within the parish are reviewed and reported upon during our Parish Council meetings and there is a time for public participation, which enables anyone with a planning application to give an explanation as to why it should support their plan. Additionally, this time allows opponents of planning applications to explain their views.
All planning applications submitted in Maidstone Borough can be viewed on the MBC website and will allow you to:
- Stay Connected – set up email alerts for any applications within your postcode
- Search for planning applications
- Comment on any submitted applications
- Obtain pre-application advice if you are planning on submitting an application
- Obtain advice on listed buildings, trees, hedges and conservation areas

Planning Enforcement Team
Whilst we are a statutory consultee during the application process, once the proposal is approved by the Planning Authority at MBC the responsibility for ensuring the works take place as set out in the approved development plan rest with MBC. This role is handled by the Planning Enforcement Team, they can be emailed on: PlanningEnforcement@maidstone.gov.uk or by phone on 01622 602809 or by completing the online form
Any observations or queries relating to developments should be directed to this team as we are not in a position to “enforce” anything once the approved plan is underway.
