M20 Junctions 8 to 10a: Overnight Closure Information

Brock

The work on the M20 Moveable Barrier Scheme is currently paused whilst the Operation Brock contraflow is active.  Whilst the majority of National Highways work can’t be undertaken while the contraflow is active, they are able to undertake certain activities to try and minimize the length of the scheme as much as possible.  This includes CCTV work located by the junction 9 slip roads, as well as some planned maintenance work to ensure the minimum number of closures required on this stretch of road.  To carry out this work safely, they’ll need to close the road overnight on the following dates.

London-bound overnight closures

  • The London-bound M20 will be closed between junctions 10a and 9 from 9:00pm on Sunday 14 August until 6:00am on Monday 15 August 2022.  A clearly signed diversion route along the A2070, A28 and A20 will be in place,
  • The London-bound M20 will be closed between junctions 9 and 8 from 9:00pm on Sunday 21 August until 6:00am on Monday 22 August 2022.  A clearly signed diversion route along the A20 will be in place.  Over-height vehicles should use the A2, M2 and A249.  Should the Brock contraflow still be active, coastbound traffic will be diverted along the hard shoulder of the M20 coastbound carriageway.

Coastbound overnight closures

  • The coastbound M20 will be closed overnight for four nights between junctions 9 and 10a.  The road will be closed from 9:00pm to 6:00am each night on the 15, 16, 17 and 18 August 2022.  A clearly signed diversion route along the A20, A28 and A2070 will be in place.

Other M20 overnight closures

Please be aware of an upcoming closure on the M20 Sandling to Harbourland Scheme.  The project will be carrying out repairs to the drainage system on the M20 coastbound carriageway between junctions 6 and 7.  To carry out this work, the junction 6 coastbound entry slip road (A229 Cobtree roundabout) will be closed from 8:00pm Friday 12 August until 6:00am Saturday 13 August 2022.  To join the M20 coastbound carriageway at junction 6, please use the London-bound carriageway and travel to junction 4 to turn around.  For traffic wanting to join the M20 coastbound at Coldharbour Lane, there will be no access to the main M20 carriageway using the link road.  Please follow diversion signs to leave at junction 6, use the London-bound carriageway and travel to junction 4 and return, or join the London-bound carriageway at Coldharbour Lane to travel to junction 4.  Traffic will still be able to exit the M20 using the coastbound link road to access junction 6 and the A229.

There may be occasions due to unforeseen circumstances, for example safety critical emergency work, where the National Highways may be unable to publicize closures in advance.  Similarly, the dates are subject to change in the case of adverse weather or other unplanned events.  You can check the National Highways closure report which is updated daily with the latest information: https://nationalhighways.co.uk/travel-updates/daily-closure-report/.

You can also find all the latest information on our Twitter feed, Facebook page, and the traffic information pages of our website at https://nationalhighways.co.uk/travel-updates/.

Thank you for your cooperation whilst we carry out this work.

Yours faithfully,
